Rebond After Giving Birth: Is It Safe?

When can I rebond after giving birth? Is it safe? Pwede bang magparebond ang breastfeeding mom? These are common questions I often hear among mom communities on social media.
I know. I get you. You’ve been waiting so long to get some hair care done because you couldn’t do it when you were pregnant.
You want to feel beautiful again because pregnancy changed your appearance in a not-so-pleasant way.
While many other pregnant women, especially celebrities (for that matter), looked blooming and fresh during their pregnancy, you don’t understand why you aren’t! Pregnancy made you feel “ugly” instead.
Well, count me in! In all my pregnancies, I noticed swelling nose, darkening of the neck, armpits, and private parts, persistent acne (they never seem to go away!), and becoming chubby.
I’m telling you, putting on makeup and frequent showers didn’t even help!
I felt super “ugly”!
I wanted to use whitening soaps and rebond my hair to feel beautiful again. But of course, I couldn’t. It is not advisable. I gotta think about my baby in my womb.
To make my story short, even without doing much, the horror slowly fades away now that pregnancy is over!
Slowly, skin color returns to normal, and reaching pre-pregnancy weight is promising. Who can relate to me?
So to make it a total makeover, it’s about time for some hair care.
But you are concerned whether having that rebond treatment is safe for breastfeeding moms or not.

Well, I’m glad you’re here for that very concern. Let’s discuss it, shall we?
Is it okay to rebond hair while breastfeeding?
Accordingly, despite the limited studies, hair treatments are generally safe.
This is because the amount of chemicals is low, and there is only a tiny chance that the chemicals enter the bloodstream and into breast milk.
There you have it!
This is great news for moms wanting to have that rebond treatment done.
Unlike in pregnancy, we have more freedom to do beauty treatments while breastfeeding, but still with limitations.
Why do I say this?
Because in my opinion, even though it’s generally safe to do hair treatments, and the number of chemicals will unlikely pass on to the breast milk, we cannot deny that these are still chemicals.
And these harsh chemicals do not only penetrate into our skin and scalp, but they also emit formaldehyde. The smell is so strong and stays on the hair for several days after the treatment.
I say that on any occasion that may be, harmful chemicals will always be harmful. Regardless if you are breastfeeding or not.
I know some women say that after doing the treatment, even when they are pregnant (some can’t wait, ha?), they see no adverse effect on both themselves and the baby.
The effect may not come soon, but it will later in life. So why risk it?!

Paano ba mag rebond ng buhok?
You want that rebond treatment, but we are still determining how harmful it can be.
The smell can linger on the hair longer, and it may not be suitable for you and your baby’s respiratory health.
The mere contact of that chemical on your baby’s skin isn’t just as safe, am I right?
So, what do we do instead?
1. Look for an organic rebond hair treatment alternative.
To be safe, looking for an organic product that promises the same results you want is best. I recommend you purchase the product yourself and take it to your favorite hair professional or use it at home.
Here are some products that I lovingly recommend:
- Yougee Organic Hair Straightening Cream – Price: ₱1,365 – ₱1,777
- QS Organic Series Smooth & Shine Straightening Cream – Price: 486.00
2. Look for a hair salon that does only organic hair care treatments.
Yes, you read that right! There are hair salons that do hair care treatments using only organic and safe products. Bee Choo Originals is just one example.
3. Buy a hair straightener.
If you are the type who wants to do hair smoothing before going on special occasions, a hair straightener is best for you. You can even curl it or straighten your hair however you want by just using heat! Can anything be safer than this?

This Philips hair straightener (affiliate link) is what I personally use. I used to buy cheaper brands but I’ve realized that they wouldn’t last for long. You really can never go wrong with a reputable brand. So, I suggest you buy this too.
4. Opt for a do-it-yourself hair-straightening treatment.
Straightening your hair is doable, and you can do it yourself at home! But of course, since you are breastfeeding, you only want to use natural and safe products on your hair. I recommend you read this article below. Thank me later!

As for this question, there is yet to be a definite time for how soon you can rebond your hair after giving birth.
How soon can I rebond my hair after giving birth?
The answer is up to you on the best time to do any beauty treatment. It could be very soon or after 4 or 6 months.
Having a newborn is such a busy time for new moms, after all! You will find yourself liking to rest and sleep to recuperate instead.
In reality, now that you’re breastfeeding your newborn 24/7, it is likely that you wouldn’t want to do anything.
Some moms even find it reasonable to wait after a year. Or go even beyond until after the baby weans from breastfeeding.
The timing doesn’t matter. It is really all up to you.
Conclusion
Your wanting to take good care of yourself is highly important for your mental health. I am with you here, fellow breastfeeding momma!
Your body has been through so much, from pregnancy to giving birth to breastfeeding.
You see? The changes have taken their toll not only on your physical but also on your mental health.
Postpartum blues, for that matter, doesn’t help either. It even triggers even more unpleasant feelings toward yourself and your outlook in life.
But fret not, as this is all normal!
You are not alone in feeling that way right now. And instead of thinking no one will understand, you choose to keep it yourself; please, reach out to other moms.
My point here is if rebond or any beauty treatment will help you feel normal and feel good about yourself again while breastfeeding, you do it!
Always think wiser about your choices, though. Please take note of the above tips that I wrote here.
