WHAT IS ZONE CLEANING?
Zone cleaning involves dividing your home into sections (zones) and tackling only one zone at a time.
It is a simple yet effective way to clean, declutter, and organize your home without overwhelm.

how to get started with zone cleaning
1. Plan your zones
Walk around your house. Walk in every room. Get a notebook and list all the possible cleaning tasks you foresee in those areas. Look at the ceiling, walls, and floors; scan the rooms from left to right to see everything.
Write all the cleaning tasks down in your notebook categorized by zones: namely, living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining area, laundry room, garage, and so on.
2. Schedule zone cleaning
Now that you have your list assign a zone to focus on per day.
Have it scheduled in a time frame that works for you.
3. Tackle the most cluttered area first.
This is applicable if your home has not been decluttered for years.
Decluttering and cleaning can be daunting, and they can easily trigger anxiety. But if you tackle it promptly per day of your week, you will find it gradually rewarding. So just be patient and enjoy the process!
As for my home, the bedroom is the most cluttered area. And so I started tackling our bedroom first. I needed 3 days to thoroughly declutter it and spent only 30 minutes per day. I went for 45 minutes maximum.
Remember: The goal of a stress-free home cleaning is to only do it for 30 minutes per day.
4. START ZONE CLEANING AS SCHEDULED
Now that you have successfully tackled the most cluttered room in your home, you are ready to focus on your daily zone cleaning tasks!
Have your tasks list ready, and check your checklist as you go or after the tasks are done. Get this zone cleaning printable for free.
5. SET A 30-MINUTE TIMER
Always go back to the golden rule of “stress-free zone cleaning” with the help of a timer.
Set your timer to 30 minutes before tackling your zone for the day. Don’t stress over the checklist if you have yet to do them all because the following week’s schedule is coming again for it! So, take it easy.
6. Use a cleaning tracker to see your progress.
A cleaning tracker is mentally helpful because it gives you a visual of your overall progress.
It also helps in building a habit for yourself. Something that makes you want to be consistent, and you have the tracker to help you with it. I tell you that you would like to have those boxes all checked out at the end of the month!
7. Journal your progress
It feels good to journal your progress! Journaling makes the journey fun and enjoyable because you get to see what has been done. It gives you the motivation to continue.
You can journal either on a weekly or monthly basis or both! Remember to take before and after photos!
The following questions are examples you can use in your journal.
Questions:
1. How much cleaning did I do the past week/month? Refer to your progress photo.
2. How did I feel about the 30-minute task per day? Do I need more time? Did I tire myself?
3. What to do next week to improve my cleaning process?
8. MAKE ZONE CLEANING A HABIT
You are now in the groove of your cleaning tasks with your timer. The habit is now easy-peasy and stress-free for you, which is the goal.
If you miss a day in your zone cleaning schedule, don’t fuss. Give yourself a little bit of grace. You have other things to tend to that need more of your attention.
9. CELEBRATE YOUR PROGRESS AND SMALL WINS!
This is where you celebrate your big and small wins in this journey. Make yourself feel good by treating yourself to a sweet treat. State it in your journal with a congratulatory message for yourself! Your house is clean and organized, and you deserve it!
